The projected study focuses on ¿good living and dwelling in the city.¿ The discourse on this topic has become the rage over the past few years. Against the background of complex problems, processes of negotiation dealing with living together in urban spaces have become more important. Based on the purpose of dwelling, different actors develop ideas as well as practical models for optimizing living situations in Munich. For this kind engagement with an urban environment, ethically- connoted arguments play a major role. This observance can be directed toward two main fields which are concentrating on the expanding real estate market in Munich:Different activists from the local community claim their right to a say in matters of developing their living environment. The Aktionsgruppe Untergiesing, for instance, demands ¿enlightenment, sensitivisation and opposition to the destructive effects of the capitalist beast of prey in our quarter.¿In the meantime, urban politicians talk about the ¿participation of the citizenry¿ in conjunction with building and developing projects. Nowadays, participation is used as a technique of governance. PERSPEKTIVE MÜNCHEN, ¿the strategic urban developing concept of the city of Munich,¿ is one example. From an empirical point of view relating to cultural studies, it should be shown, in the case of Munich, which positions have recently been taken, established and debated in the context of local affairs and civil involvement. Of particular interest are interdependencies and conflicts which can be attached to disputes on ¿living in the city.¿ How do inhabitants become ¿ethical¿ subjects ¿ articulating their own ambitions or seen from outside ¿ and what role do moral economies play in campaigning for buildings and quarters which are inseparably connected to urban environments and social structures?
