项目摘要

世界文学の古典は、原文で読まれる以外に翻訳や翻案を通して広く普及してきた。1940年代のアメリカで「発明」され、世界各国に普及した「名作文学の漫画版」は、年少者向けに粗筋や要点を漫画化したもので、文学研究者や教育者から否定的に見られることが多かった。しかし1970年代以降は、独自の解釈にもとづく創造的な翻案も見られるようになり、現在では漫画が文学教育の場で活用されることも多い。文学も漫画も基本的には「読み物」であるため、両者のあいだには独特の緊張関係と親和性がある。本研究の目的は、ヨーロッパの漫画を主な対象として、文学の漫画化において漫画はメディアとしての固有性をどのように発揮してきたか、もしくはその固有性を犠牲にしてきたか、それは社会における漫画の位置づけとどのようにかかわっているのか、という問いに答えることである。本研究は、児童（もしくは大人）向けの学習（情報）漫画としての古典的名作の翻案から、古典の読み直し・再解釈を促すアダプテーション、さらには古典の権威からの解放に誘うような挑発的なアダプテーションまで、時代ごとの変遷や多様なアプローチが見られるという見通しのもとに進める。二年目は、フランス小説の日本における受容を漫画の形で表現した高野文子『黄色い本』に関して日仏研究者間で対話の場を持ち、漫画を通した古典の読み直し・再解釈の可能性や困難について議論した。厳密には「アダプテーション」とはいえない事例であるが、文化圏や受容のコンテクストの違いによる、文学の政治性の再解釈可能性、日本の漫画とバンド・デシネの（共通項よりも）差異の重要性、「古典」の地位の流動性などに関して多くの発見があった。
