项目摘要

令和４年度は、本研究におけるキーコンセプトである「無化」（annihilation）をめぐって、その問題系の射程を確認しつつ研究をおこなった。‘annihilation’ は「絶滅」とも訳し得る語であるが、〈絶滅〉は、近年、加速主義の思想との関連で問題化されることの多いテーマである。具体的には、社会的なイノベーションを起こすべく現在の資本主義のシステムを徹底的に推進すべしとする加速主義の思想において、反動的な〈絶滅への渇望〉（the thirst for annihilation）（ニック・ランド）が見て取れるということを踏まえながら、加速主義をめぐる言説において「絶滅」がどのように論じられているのかを調査し、カーライルの「（自我の）無化」（Annihilation (of Self)をめぐる思考と、それを自覚的に受容した北村透谷の作品における「（自我の）無化」（Annihilation）の表象とがいかなる現代的意味を持ち得るかについて考察をおこなった。そこで注目されたのが、北村透谷の劇詩『蓬莱曲』のクライマックスにおける、大魔王が人間社会を「罪の火」で焼き滅ぼすという黙示録的な場面であった。大魔王の表象に現代資本主義の問題性に通じるものが多く見受けられることを確認しながら、その大魔王の服従の命令を拒否する柳田素雄というキャラクターに、人間社会を「無化＝絶滅」させ得る現代のグローバル資本主義の論理に通じる破壊性にからめとられることをよしとしない透谷の自我の反映を見て取り、ここに『蓬莱曲』という作品の先駆性・現代性があると結論づけた。以上の考察は、2022年12月17日にオンライン開催された、早稲田文芸・ジャーナリズム論系主催講演会での「近代詩と現代史をつなぐ」と題した講演にて公にし、同一の題で『早稲田現代文芸研究』第13号（2023年3月）にて活字化した。
