研究計画第2年次にあたる2022年度は，前年度に引き続き，ARCHER (A Representative Corpus of Historical English Registers) 3.2コーパスから英語解釈用法進行形 (the interpretative progressive) 例の採取を継続しつつ，関連文献の読み込みを行った。コーパス採取については，当該コーパスの17世紀から19世紀の英国英語セクションに*ingで検索をかけ，得られたデータを一つ一つ精査する手法で進めた。その結果，解釈用法はKranich (2010)で主張されているas if句により導入されたというよりは，長谷川 (2002) の主張したbelief-contextに加えて，「対比性」を強調する文脈で発生した可能性が高いことが分かった。以上の研究成果を論考としてまとめ，2022年10月に近代英語協会叢書（第1巻）へ投稿した結果，編集者2名による査読を経て，2022年12月に掲載が決定された。この叢書は2023年度注にPeter Lang社から出版予定である。2023年2月中旬にすべての校正を終え，脱稿している。また，関連論文を精査していく中で，ヨーロッパ言語の中ではフランス語進行形 (etre en train de 不定詞)に同じような解釈用法が存在していることが分かった。一方，複数の進行形フォームを持つオランダ語には，解釈用法そのものを担う進行形は存在していないものの，結びつきやすい動詞タイプによって「主観的用法 (subjective use, 解釈用法もしばしばこのタイプとして分類される)」の許容度に差がでるという。この点についても，引き続き調査が必要なことが分かった。
