Investigating the State of Globalized English Teaching Approaches in English Research Articles through Critical Discourse Analysis

After having been unable to complete as much data acquisition in fiscal 2021 as we had desired due to COVID-19 restrictions preventing us from hiring research assistants, we were able to begin significant work in downloading, converting, and preparing data in fiscal 2022. While we are not yet caught up with the original timetable for the project, we have continued to acquire and process as much data as possible throughout the year. In order to avoid biasing our analysis by overemphasizing early data, we have decided to hold off on conducting detailed mathematical and thematic analysis of the data until we have acquired at least half of it.In June 2022, we presented at the Conference on Global Education at Lakeland University in Tokyo on the results of our pilot study. This pilot study utilized many of the same methods that we plan to use for the main study on a related but more limited data set. The results indicated that the basic method is sound and is likely to yield useful results on the full data set.Based on feedback from the presentation and our own discussions, we have decided to seek publication of the pilot results. We are currently writing a paper and intend to submit for publishing in 2023.
