本研究は、尼門跡所蔵の古文書調査を続け、尼寺文書研究会を開催し「総持院触留」を講読・翻刻して基盤研究を行うとともに、近世、近代の史料をもとに尼門跡の尼僧たちが行った寺院経営の実態、世俗の女性を中心にした支持者たちの姿を明確にする。それらが尼門跡のみならず、一般の尼寺とも共通するかという問題を考え、戦後を生きた尼門跡の現在の住持が寺をいかに維持したかの聞き取り調査を実施する。そうして、近世、近代の尼門跡史料の分析を中心に、領域と時代を超えた研究を行うことを目的としている。令和4年度は、光照院調査を2回（9月4～6日及び2月10～12日）計6日間行った。今年度調査では、日記27冊分約7,300コマの撮影を行った。さらに、昨年度行った光照院門跡への聞き取り調査の内容を取りまとめて原稿化を進めている。同じく昨年度作成を終えた近代文書の調査書約180点についてもデータ整理を行い、目録化を進めている。また尼寺文書研究会を9回（4月10日・5月29日・7月2日・7月31日・8月28日・10月9日・11月13日・12月25日・3月5日）開催した。慈受院蔵「総持院触留」は、朝廷・幕府から武家伝奏を通じて比丘尼御所に発給された触等を書き留めたものであり、尼門跡寺院では類例がない貴重な資料である。研究会では、触留帳の明和3年（1766）から明和5年（1768）の3冊分の翻刻を終えた。当該期は、現在において最後の女帝と言える後桜町天皇の在位期に当たり、極めて興味深い時期の資料となっている。上記を踏まえた「尼門跡寺院経営の実態研究」や「尼門跡支持者の研究」及び「一般尼寺との比較研究」の個別研究に関しては、各自が研究を進めている。
