We selected I BARA BAHI at Patan as a subject. In joint efforts with the Department of Archaeology, H, N, G. of Nepal, we dismantled a half of it from November 1990 to January 1991 and studied the remained structure, For the overall restoration project, Cultural Affairs Agency of Japan extended its technical cooperation to the Government of Nepal. under the guidance of it, dismantling was carried out steadily on record in order of roofs, second-floor timber framing, second-floor brick walls, floor framing, first-floor timber framing, first-floor brick walls, and the foundation. Dismantling went off well,As a result of dismantling, we could obtain information on building construction. got only that, we also found out that bricking techniques of the remained structure showed that restoration was repeated at least three times. We want to collate the findings with knowledge in historical documents and determine the age that the remained structure was built. We also knew the weak points of the structure judging from the destroyed portions and obtained hints for restoration and preservation, Furthermore, we can guess the design concept of the plan.In fiscal 1991 (April 1, 1991 to March 31, 1992). we elucidated construction technologies used for the dismantled half of the building, made restoration design lore concrete to prepare detailed drawings and executed the restoration work, Simultaneously with restoration of the building, we grasped the discrepancy between the existing technologies and the traditional ones and tried to recover those technologies which should be restored.
