项目摘要

本研究では東海地区における共同研究という機動力を最大限に生かしつつ、地域・時代ともに幅広い個別事例を収集・分析し、そこから得られたさまざまな知見を総動員して大西洋史の視座の有効性を示してゆくことを目標とする。研究代表者・研究分担者は、それぞれの担当する研究課題を出発点として本研究のテーマにアプローチした。もっとも本年度も、コロナ禍により海外での史料収集や実地調査が事実上、不可能となり、やむをえず当初の予定を若干変更せざるをえなくなったが、そのような状況下でも、インターネットの活用や、すでに手元にある史料の解析を鋭意進めるなどして、研究の進捗に影響のないように取り計らった。研究代表者の和田光弘は、「シス大西洋史」の一端を明かにすべく、18世紀末マサチューセッツ州の地方名士J・チョートの遺産競売に関する史料の分析を引き続き試みた。とりわけ今年度は、回帰分析などの計量分析を多用して、史料生成の背景に迫った。また、初期アメリカ学会が総力を結集して編んだ学術論文集に、新史料の分析などに関する論文を掲載した。学会報告では、歴史科学協議会・第56回大会予備報告、さらに歴史科学協議会・第56回大会報告で研究成果を報告した。研究分担者の森脇由美子は、引き続き、ニューヨーク州マディソン郡サリヴァンの有力者ゼブロン・ダグラスの邸宅に残された未刊行史料「オネイダ湖運河文書」の分析をおこなうとともに、同運河およびダグラスについて、ニューヨーク州議会などの公文書などから探った。研究分担者の久田由佳子は、家政学の祖として知られるキャサリン・ビーチャーの著作の分析の他、料理用ストーブの発明や衛生観念の変化などのマテリアル・カルチャーの研究、さらに女性史、家族史、労働史などの既存の研究を踏まえながら、19世紀前半の家事労働が工業化の影響を受けてどのように変化したのか、明らかにした。
