项目摘要

北タイ・ラフ族の間には「ラフ（人／民族）」という語を用い、自民族集団の不変の性質とされるものについて、否定的に語るという語りのスタイルが存在する。ラフ住民による独特の語りのモチーフとスタイルについて本研究は、1．集団独特の語りの形式には、その集団の歴史・社会的な経験が大きく関わる、2．キリスト教会の活動は総合的な開発政策であり、被改宗者に近代西洋的な価値観と規律をすり込み、饒舌性、包括性や形式性という点で、語りの形式に影響する、3．生々しい原体験が、集団成員の精神の中に、構造と一貫性をもって基礎づけられないことが「困難な語り」という現象をもたらす、という3つの作業仮説をもって検討する。本研究は、東南アジア大陸部に暮らす山地少数民族ラフを対象として、彼（女）らの自民族についての種々の語りを記録し、歴史・社会コンテクストの中に置き、独自のアプローチを用いて内側からの理解を試みる。少数民族ラフによる自集団についての語りの研究を通して、（1）普段その人たち自身の「声」を聞くことの少ない終焉者集団の人々の「経験」（認識、感情、希望などの総体）を「住民の視点」にできるだけ近づいた形で理解すること、（2）語りを材料に他人を理解するという他者理解の問題について理論的な貢献をおこなうことを目的とする。特に、（a）キリスト教化とは「文明化」である、（b）キリスト教徒ラフと伝統派ラフの語りの状況の違いは宗教経験の違いから形成された、（c）原体験を経験にうまく基礎づけられないことが沈黙や語りがたさという現象をもたらす、という作業仮説を、フィールドワークと理論研究によって検証してゆく。
