コロナ禍の影響で、米国での調査を行う機会は一度得られただけだった。自分自身も罹患して体力的に困難な時期があり、研究にも影響が生じたことは残念だった。しかしロックフェラー研究所とプランゲコレクションの調査を行うことができ、後者の日本国内で取得保存されている国会図書館の憲政資料館の調査も部分的ではあるが行うことができた。全く新しい知見が得られたというよりも、当時の言説の環境を実感できたこと、戦後資料の多様な広がりを知ることができたことは大きい。また機会をとらえて再訪し、その意味を十分理解できるようにしたい。また、海外の関連する国際学会に参加して、パネルの議論を通して多様な領域の研究者と交流し、自分の問題意識の妥当性と限界、領域ごとに異なった問題意識と同時に重なり合うものを見つけることができた。特に、ハウジング（住宅問題）研究の蓄積を、建築計画や理論とは異なる福祉学や都市研究、社会学や経済学の方面での蓄積と対照して理解することができたのは、自分の問題意識を明確にする上で大きな収穫だった。感染症や災害による住環境の変化や価値観の変化なども研究の対象として明確化して扱う事に気づき、論考などを行うことができたのは有意義だった。また、日本のデザイン運動の詳細とデザイン史分野からの問題意識を戦後の建築デザインの展開と関連付けて読み解く作業を始めることができた。その資料や研究の蓄積は膨大でかなりの時間が必要だと思われる。一方で、多くの関係する方々がまだご存命なこと、その領域での戦後デザイン史研究がまだ十分進んでいないことを知ったので、自分なりの視点と方法で慎重に開拓し、本研究の多面性を強化できるように努力していきたい。
