本研究では特別支援学校（聴覚障害）高等部の教科指導における聴覚障害生徒の手話の読み取りの視覚情報探索過程の特徴を明らかにすることを目的とし、令和4（2022）年度については、手話の読み取りにおける視覚情報探索過程の基礎的な資料を得るための予備実験を実施した。対象者は聴覚障害のある大学生（以下、聴覚障害者）3名、及び聴覚障害のない大学生（以下、聴者）3名であり、聴覚障害者のうち1名は手話を主なコミュニケーション手段とし、2名は聴覚を活用し、手話は補助的なコミュニケーション手段として用いていた。一方、聴者3名は手話の初学者であった。刺激については基本的な手話単語、指文字、指さし、非手指要素によって構成された。眼球運動の測定には頭部装着式の眼球運動測定装置（TalkEye Lite：両眼タイプ T.K.K.2951）、分析には眼球運動動画解析プログラム（T.K.K.2927）を用いた。その結果、聴覚障害者は主に話し手の口領域を注視して情報を収集し、聴覚を活用している聴覚障害者は手指の動作からも情報を収集している傾向が示された。一方、聴者は主に話し手の手指の動作から情報を収集しているが、口領域からも情報を収集している傾向が示された。これらの結果から、聴覚障害者は主に話し手の口領域を注視し、口形からの情報は中心視、手指の動作からの情報は周辺視によって収集し、手話の読み取りを効果的に行っていることが示唆された。
