本研究は、ユニットケア型高齢者施設の共用空間に注目し、介護のための機能的側面からではなく、入居者やスタッフ等による環境構築を前提とした相互浸透的視点から、改めて施設の共用空間の意味や役割、課題を見出すことを目的とする。具体的には、以下のことを行っていく。（1）ユニットケア型特別養護老人ホームやグループホームを対象として、共用空間における環境構築の実態把握調査を行う。環境構築の状況、過程、目的などを含め、克明に記録する。（2）環境構築の実態が確認できた施設を選定し、入居者の生活実態調査を行い、一人ひとりの個別な生活展開がどのように共用空間の環境構築プロセスと関わり得るのか、その様相を把握・分析する。（3）日常生活における環境構築のプロセスが入居者の生活に及ぼす意味・役割を、相互浸透的視点からモデル化し、環境に支えられながら本人らしさを保ちつつ、主体的かつ社会的な生活の実現をサポートする「環境によるケア」の概念導出・提案へと結びつける。昨年度に引き続き、まだコロナ禍の中にあって、高齢者施設への訪問は依然として厳しい状況が続いている。感染のピークは過ぎたと言われているが、高齢者を中心に重症化するリスクはかえって上昇している状況であり、部外者である研究者が施設に赴いての実態把握調査を行うことは困難となっている。従って昨年に引き続き、現地調査のための体制を整えること、並びに、近年の高齢者施設の設計動向の把握に努めることとなった。建築関係の雑誌、医療・福祉建築協会の年次資料などから、近年のユニットケア型施設に対して、どのような設計手法が用いられ、共用空間の特徴が見られるのか、おおまかな動向を捉えるとともに、分析を進めるためのデータ化を進めている状況である。
