当初の研究計画では、初年度および第2年度にかけて文献検討を中心に研究を進め、その進展に合わせて社会調査等を計画していくこととしていたが、社会情勢の変化に伴い、フォローすべき情報が増加し、具体的な調査の立案までには至っていない。しかしながら、本研究課題が対象とする、異なる信念（体系）を持つ人々の健康・医療に関する選択・意思決定という問題について、第2年度も各研究者がそれぞれの専門性・関心に基づいて、論文・書籍・オンラインの資料を中心に情報収集を行った。また、各分担者の判断で必要と思われる学会等に随時参加した。研究代表者は初年度に引き続き日本生命倫理学会の基礎理論部会の部会員としての活動においても自律概念と関係の深いインフォームド・コンセントについて検討を進めたほか、論文を執筆するため（調査内容をまとめた原稿をアクセプトされる水準まで改善するため）に必要な視座として、公衆衛生に関する議論、分析哲学者による各種の議論、各文化の自然観（特に近現代代のドイツに関して）について情報を収集し、理解を深めることができた。予定した通り、課題の一部として、アメリカ合衆国での脳死判定拒否に関する最新の状況について報告することとしていたが、これについては学会国際誌に論文を投稿・掲載することができた（Kato, Y.
