本研究は、狂犬病対策として最も費用対効果の高い犬のワクチン接種率を向上させるための介入プログラム開発に関する理論的、実証的研究であり、令和4年度は令和3年度（3年目）までに行ったベースライン調査とエンドライン調査の解析を行った。介入として行ったコミュニティの世帯代表者を対象とした参加型ワークショップの影響により、介入群と非介入群の間で有意な知識の向上は見られなかったが、ワクチン接種率自体は有意に上昇した。本年度は、この要因を介入が世帯代表者のモチベーションを向上させたという仮説を立て、その要因の検討を行った。その結果、世帯代表者を対象とした参加型ワークショップを開催したことが、地域住民の心理的欲求の充足を通して行動的なエンゲージメントに繋がったのではないかと考えられた。ワークショップでは、住民が狂犬病という課題を主体的にとらえ、自分たちのコミュニティで何ができるかを自由に自発的に話し合うようにサポートを行った。これにより、ワークショップの中で住民の自立性への欲求が充足され、地域内での狂犬病課題に対する他者との関わりあいが生じたと考えられる。また、ワークショップの中では、ワクチン接種の手続について制度的なサポートに関する情報を提供したことで、住民が自分たちでできることに取り組もうとするコンピテンスへの欲求が促進されたことも、住民が自ら行動を起こしワクチン接種率の向上に貢献したと考えられる。令和5年度は、この住民の内的動機づけに関して社会心理学的側面からさらに考察を加え、今後の狂犬病対策に貢献できるような知見を得るために、国内の研究協力者との研究会を開催する予定である。
