项目摘要

当初の研究計画では、以下の三点の問いを柱とした。①日本における女性警察官の起源とは？②女性警察官は、どのように発展してきたのか？③女性警察官は、どのようなイメージをまとってきたのか？①についてはほぼ調査を終えた。その結果、戦後の女性警察官職の創設に先立って、警察活動への女性活用を提案試行した複数の組織が存在したことと、それぞれの目的について明確化した。具体的には以下である。キリスト教系団体（30年代。兵士の性病対策）、財閥系福祉団体（30年代。女性家出人保護）、日本軍（40年代。占領地支配地における治安維持）。②については、新聞記事の悉皆調査を1940年代後半～70年代初頭に限定して実施した。加えて各地における女性警察官第1号を対象とした聞き書き記録の収集を行った。その結果、行政による戦災孤児保護に限界を感じ自ら保護施設を創設、さらには県議会議員として児童行政を推進した茨城のケースなど、ユニークな第1号たちの実像を発掘することができた。③については、二方向から検討した。まず前年度に引き続き、大衆メディアにおける女性警察官イメージについて作品発掘と分析を続けた。特に、1970年の大ヒットテレビドラマ『ありがとう』における、ベテラン、中堅、新人女性警察官たちそれぞれのイメージに焦点を当てた。さらに警察広報における女性の役割について、パンフレット、PR映像、イベント活動などを中心に具体例を収集し、個別に考察を行った。
