项目摘要

後期デカルト哲学の展開について、形而上学・自然学・倫理学が交錯した考察に現れる以下の具体的事例を検討することで、デカルト晩年の自然本性概念の思索が一つの果実として結実する様を析出した。第一の例は化体の問題である。秘蹟後にパンの感覚的性質が残りつつ、キリストの身体がパンにおいて現前するという問題を、デカルトは自らの「表面」理論によって自然学的な観点から説明しようと試みた。これによってデカルトは、化体という神学上の問題といえども、感覚という偶有的な問題に関する限り、すべて自然学的な観点から矛盾なく説明可能であること、すなわち、デカルト哲学の「人間的な論拠」によって信仰の問題が証明可能であることを示した。一方で、化体そのものの発生はなぜ可能かという核心的な問題については課題が残った。これは一方でキリストの魂の神秘に関わる問題であるため、デカルトは以後沈黙を守ったが、他方で心身問題を含むものであり、後期デカルトの研究を方向づける一要因ともなった。本研究ではデカルトの愛の理論を手掛かりとして、心身合一に固有の自然本性概念を考察した。デカルトの愛の理論の特徴は、アリストテレスやスコラ学者たちと異なり、愛を対象によって区別せず、「私」が善とみなすものと結合して一つの全体を成すことを愛の行為と考えることにより、神の愛と人の愛を本質的に同じ愛として一義的に考察することを可能にした点にある。精神と身体が実体的に区別されながらも「生きる私」において分かちがたく合一しているように、精神的な愛と情念としての愛は区別されるものでありながら、「私」において矛盾なく共存し、連続した一つの愛として現れる。概念としては個別に考察される精神の愛と情念の愛は「生きる私」において矛盾なく結合し、精神と身体を通して全身全霊で愛するのが心身合一体としての「私」の自然本性に固有の愛の形態である、という結論を得た。
