项目摘要

本研究は、古代末期（4-6世紀）において、ローマ帝国全域で活発な活動をみせるモザイク工房に着目し、美術品の流通システムと、職人の移動を中心に検証しながら、古代地中海商業圏における工房制作の需要と実態を明らかにするものである。そのため、「物（美術品）」と「人（職人）」の移動の足跡を、図像伝搬や諸作例の様式分析による従来の美術史学的な考察に加え、制作の組織化を解明する手がかりとなる碑文や古文献史料、地中海世界の美術品流通の一端を示す出土品といった考古資料を駆使しながら、社会的組織としての職人集団とその紐帯が、古代末期の世俗美術及びキリスト教美術の興隆に果たした役割について考察する。本年度は、夏期と冬期にフランスの博物館及び研究所図書館、そしてチュニジアの遺跡における現地調査を実施し、文献の収集と写真図版による基盤資料の充実化を図った。カタログ化の作業内容は、前年度に引き続き、以下の項目①研究対象となるモザイク作例の出土場所に関する検証 ②碑文内容の検証 ③その他のモザイク工房に関する諸例の分類を行なった。本年度はまた「流通するモザイク作品：美術品の流通システム」をテーマとして、「エンブレマ」と呼ばれる、木材、素焼き煉瓦、大理石などの枠付き土台によって持ち運び可能となる小型モザイク画を分析対象とし、遺構からの出土状況によって確認された作例や、沈没船の積荷から発見された作例に関する資料の収集を行った。また同時に、制作地や工房からモザイクが舗床される各地の邸宅までの交易ルートや流通に関する文献資料や考古データの収集に努め、近年の研究動向を把握しながら、今後の課題の展開を検討した。

This study is aimed at verifying the needs of workshop production in the ancient Mediterranean commercial circle at the end of ancient times (4-6 centuries), during the period of imperial activity throughout the empire.
