私たちは、普段、時間的にシームレスな知覚を絶えず経験しているように感じているが、たった二つの視覚イベントでさえ、継時的に現れた場合、後続するターゲットの知覚が消え去ってしまう数百ミリ秒間の不応期が生まれる。そのようなattentional blink現象の頑健性は、ヒトにおいて多数示されてきたが、種を超えた連続性や生物学的意義については依然明らかではない。今年度は、これまでに確立したモデル動物と健常のヒトの参加者から集積した行動データに、DTWというノンパラメトリックな解析手法を新たに適用し、霊長類間における進化生物学的変遷を定量化した。その結果、正常個体において、サルの知覚の不応期は、ヒトの時間スケールに対し、定数倍で遷延していることがわかった。これらの結果は、知覚意識の生成を律速する、霊長類に共通した生物学的基盤の存在を示唆する。過去の知見から、前頭ー頭頂葉損傷に起因した半側空間無視患者群や、正常発達過程の幼少期において、今回観察した種間差と類似する現象が現れることが報告されている。今後、本パラダイムから得られる神経科学的知見は、これまで概念的に想定されてきた注意資源や短期記憶固定化および生物が有するニューラルボトルネックの関係を具現化し、進化・発達軸に普遍の知覚意識の移ろいとその病態メカニズムの解明に大いに貢献するであろう。最期に、本プロジェクトを遂行するにあたり支えていただいたすべての方々に深謝する。
