本研究は、歴史的典籍・史料に基づいた国際的な規模での共同研究を行い、古典文化の学び・復元・憧憬という形で現れる18～19世紀の日本の古典復興の実態を捉えて歴史的に評価し、シンポジウム等で議論を重ねて、現代における古典復興の意義、ひいては過去の書物・資料との対話をベースとする人文学の現代的意義を考察することを目標としている。この問いは、古典をどのように再生するかという現代的課題に示唆をもたらし、現代における古典の利用や再創造といった古典の活用にも道を拓くだろう。本年度は、オンラインで、米国のUCB、ハワイ大学マノア校、ホノルル美術館、イタリアのベネチア・カフォスカリ大学と共同研究を行った。UCBとは同校のジョナサン・ズウィッカー准教授と代表者盛田ほか数名の共同研究者で江戸時代の古典復興とそれに関連するテーマでのオンライン授業について企画・実践を行った。ハワイ大学マノア校およびホノルル美術館とは同校ロバート・ヒューイ名誉教授をはじめとする教員・院生およびホノルル美術館スタッフと、同美術館所蔵の「十番虫合絵巻」を解読するオンライン研究会を開催し、注釈・現代語訳・英訳を作成し、その成果出版とWEB公開に向けて準備を進めた。カフォスカリ大学のジェルリーニ研究員とは古典再生につき意見交換を重ねた。2023年2月11日・12日には、京都産業大学で、国際シンポジウム「古典の再生」を、ハイブリッド方式で行った。14か国472名が参加登録する盛況で、京都新聞にも出色の研究集会と紹介された。本シンポジウムには国際的に活躍する５カ国（米国・イタリア・カナダ・ドイツ・カザフスタン）の日本文学研究者を招き、23名が登壇し、様々な視点から問題を掘り下げ、討議した。対面で行われたことにより、国際学術交流が一気に推し進められて有意義であった。本シンポジウムは論文集として書籍化される予定である。
