クジラやアザラシといった具体的な生物資源を事例に、グリーンランド・イヌイット社会における科学知と在来知の調和と背反を理解することを目指した本課題は、両者の結節の局面＝異種混淆の実質を焦点化していくことへと軸足を移すことになった。今年度は、昨年度実施したグリーンランド・イヌイットに関する先行研究の論点整理をふまえ、西から東へと移動したパレオ／ネオ・エスキモーと、東から西へと新たな地平を求めたノース人／デンマーク＝ノルウェー同君連合出身者との混淆の実質がいかなるものであったのかを、特に18世紀の植民地化以降の（他者）表象、交易、布教の観点から検討した。混淆の局面でデンマーク＝ノルウェーが重視していたのは、「保全」と「同時間性の否定」だった。デンマーク＝ノルウェーは、グリーンランド・イヌイット（特にハンター）に自立を要請し続けた。植民地運営のコストを出来得る限りおさえながら、セイウチの牙等豊富な自然資源＝辺境のリソースを調達しようとしていたからである。目指されたのは、近代との出合いによって、狩猟社会としてのグリーンランドが変質することのないよう、当該社会を保全することだった。その際に意味を持ったのは、同時代的に編まれた数多の民族誌だった。グリーンランドでは、古き良き時代の社会、すなわち狩猟・漁労に立脚した自立社会を維持する手がかりとして、民族誌に記録されている伝統的な猟師を理想化し、そうした存在を核とする社会を作り上げることが目指された。参照されたのは、同時代を生きながらも、西部に比して植民地の影響がまだ十分に及んでいなかった北部や東部のグリーンランド・イヌイットだった。観察者は、植民地化されていく西部の状況をふまえつつ、北部や東部に遠征し、彼らのレンズに映る景色をテクスト化した。東部・北部は、同時代性の否定、つまり西部とは切り離された時間の中に生きることが要請される場だった。
