今年度は、別々な機会にその時々の関心から発表してきたものを博士論文としてまとめる作業に専念した。概要は以下の通りである。社会変化の様態を「地域」に焦点を当てながら分析する試みは、主権国家の法的/実質的主権・領域性をめぐる議論とのかかわりの中で、多くの研究者によってなされてきた。そこでは、自治・民主主義・ガバナンス・参加といった概念を介して、国家中心主義的な枠組みからでは捉えきれない様々な社会変化の特徴を、地域という場を通して明らかにすることが目指されてきた。なかでも、1970年代以降に起こった西欧工業社会における自治権獲得運動は、その典型事例として扱われてきた。自治権獲得運動が起こる背景には、中央政体が国内の区画全域にわたってその最高権力を行使し、様々な下位国家主体の多様性を考慮に入れず、標準化された対応によって絶えず管理し続けてきたという現実があった。もっとも、自治権獲得運動に至る要因や自治権獲得以降の地域社会の様態にかんしては、地域ごとの文脈に依るところが大きく、それらを一緒くたにして論じることはできない。しかし、自治権獲得運動をはじめとする地域の動態を議論する上で、中央政体との「中心-周縁』関係=「中心-周縁』間の統合と分離のプロセスが議論の準拠枠に設定され続けてきたという点には目を向ける必要があった。とはいえ、自治権獲得運動をめぐるこの手の捉え方は、地域の自治を画一的・単線的に捉えるばかりでなく、その結果として、事実を歪曲して理解することに繋がってはいないだろうか。あるいは、自治が「中心-周縁」関係を準拠枠として議論され続ける限り、「マイノリティの権利の伸長」と「国家の内部崩壊を導く可能性」が安直に結び付けられ、画一的な結論を導くことにつながってしまわないだろうか。博士論文では、これまでの自治が「中心-周縁」間の統合と分離のプロセスを準拠枠として議論され続けてきたという「議論の前提」に目を向けた上で、このような「前提」を共有しないデンマーク領グリーンランドの自治の事例を「対内的自治」「対外的自治」という独自の概念を介して実証し考察した。この作業は、自治概念の脱構築及び自治概念に対する新たな視角を提供することに貢献するものであった.
