- 日本の社会において勤勉であることが道徳的価値意識に基づいている可能性を検証するために、道徳規範に対する違反行為に対する人々の反応を分析した。具体的には、予備調査により勤勉道徳違反であるとされた複数のシナリオについて、なぜ道徳違反であるかの説明過程を調べた。説明のための選択肢として「義務論的」「功利主義的」「感情的」の各説明を用意して比較したところ、勤勉違反については帰結主義的な説明が好んで用いられる可能性が示された。しかもその傾向は、道徳基盤理論が提唱する5つの基盤違反のいずれに関する違反よりも顕著であった。また、調整変数として公正世界信念、道徳動機、道徳基盤判断に関する個人差変数の役割について検証した。これらの結果は、道徳的判断が他者への説明という過程を経たコミュニケーションとして伝搬していく可能性について重要な示唆を与えるものである。- 勤勉道徳に関わるもう一つの過程として、不当な扱いを受けた従業員に対する、微細な被害者非難の傾向を検証するための、シナリオ実験を行なった。結果は、被害者非難よりもむしろ、不当な扱いによる逆境を克服したという解釈から好意的な評価や判断が引き出される過程が明らかになった。さらにこのデータからは、勤労場面における公正信念やイデオロギー的な信念に関する個人差変数の分析を続けていくための基礎資料が得られた。職場における不当ないじめ・排斥などの処遇をめぐる他者からの認知そして自己認知が勤労意欲に与える影響について分析するための基礎資料も得られた。- 勤勉道徳の文化的背景を吟味するため、アメリカ・ゴンザガ大学の研究者との国際共同研究実施に向けた取り組みを行なった。
