项目摘要

本年度は、日本各地の鵜飼に関わる技術や知識、物質文化、歴史資料をめぐる調査を実施するとともに、これまでの研究成果を整理することで1500年の歴史をもつ鵜飼の年表作成などもおこなった。具体的には、日本の鵜飼でしかみられないウミウの捕獲技術に関わる現地調査の実施と歴史資料を整理し、日本各地のどの場所でいかに捕獲され、どのように飼い慣らされてきたのかをまとめた。また、鵜飼が描かれたり、模られたり、記されたりした資料（絵画や埴輪、文字資料など）を整理し、古墳時代から現代まで続く鵜飼の日本史を整理した。そのうえで、造形と文字記録、絵画でそれぞれ最古の作例を確認したほか、（１）野生個体の捕獲は平安の時代からおこなわれていたこと、（２）鵜飼を描いた多様な絵画が数多く残されていること、（３）近世期になると権力者の庇護のもとで続く鵜飼があったこと、（４）戦後の漁業法改正や高度経済成長期の水質悪化などで零細な鵜飼が一気に衰退したことなどを明らかにした。こうした一連の成果は編著『鵜飼の日本史』（仮）でまとめる予定である。このほか、本年度は鵜飼研究の成果をAdaptive Strategies of Cormorant Fishers in Response to Decreased Fishing Area. Global Ecology in Historical Perspective (K.Ikeya and W.Balee eds.,Springer, 2023.03)において発表したほか、国立民族学博物館において写真・映像展「現代中国を、カワウと生きる―鵜飼い漁師たちの技」（2022年6月30日-8月2日）の開催を通して一般にも公開した。
