今年度は、本研究の主要な考察対象である室町期を検討する上で、前提となる鎌倉期・南北朝期を分析した。考察対象となる対馬の中世文書は数千点に及ぶが、未だ網羅的に収集されていないため、国内外の収蔵施設の調査により博捜することを試みた。その結果、鎌倉期の検討では、幕府により守護・地頭の職権を付与された少弐氏が対馬支配権を国衙・在庁勢力から奪取してく様相を明らかにした。また少弐氏と代官宗氏の主従関係の変化が、国境地域と九州本土、あるいは中央（京都・鎌倉）との政治構造を規定することを示した。以上の成果を論文にまとめ公表した。続いて南北朝期の検討を進めた。対馬宗氏は少弐氏との関係を踏まえ北部九州に勢力を扶植する一方、少弐氏は対馬支配から遊離していく経緯を明らかにした。また、宗氏の対馬支配を鎌倉期の地頭代としての職権の延長線上に位置付けた。これにより、守護職補任に基づく幕府の関与は限定的となることを示した。この成果は近く研究誌に掲載される予定である。次に、前期倭寇に代表される海上勢力の動向に焦点をあてた。従来、国内史料からこの問題に接近するのは困難であるとされてきたが、対馬史料を綿密に検討し、その実態に関する手がかりを見出した。南北朝期の宗氏・少弐氏と倭寇の関係については、課役を介して両者は結託していると結論付け、学会報告を行った。また、地理学や美術史等との合同シンポジウムでは、これまでの実証的成果をもとに国境地域の住人の国家意識や国境認識を検討した。その結果、在来の天道信仰や海神信仰に加え、八幡信仰や伊勢信仰、熊野信仰の影響が当該期の島内史料に随所に見られることを明らかにした。こうした宗教的観念を踏まえ、当該地域の住人は、「日本」および「日本」と対馬の関係を認識していたことを指摘した。
