项目摘要

本年度は、平仮名特有の字形の発達過程を跡づける上での鍵となる問題や、平仮名の社会的な位置付けや価値観を考えるための材料となる仮名の用語についての問題を中心に成果を得た。（一）論文「平仮名の字源と草書」では、近年の中国・日本の文字史の知見を押さえた上で、平仮名の字形が、草書を中心に平安時代前期の書法一般を基盤として発達したことを明らかにし、その時期の草書の普及が契機となって平仮名字形の発達が起こった可能性を示唆した。（二）論文「自家集切『貫之集』の仮名」では、仮名の古筆切として最古級の遺品と目される「自家集切貫之集」の資料的性格を分析し、これが過渡期の仮名の形態をよく留めており、平仮名字形の発達過程を考察したり仮名資料を解読する上で有用な資料であることを明らかにした。（三）論文「「平仮名」の原義」では、室町時代初出の「平仮名」という語が本来は仮名手本のいろはの字体を限定して指す語であったとする近年の新説を批判した上で、この語が「普通の仮名」の意味で、漢字の全体を書き崩す手法を軸にして出来た仮名の体系一般を指す語であったことを明らかにした。（四）口頭発表「「仮名」の原義について」では、用語「仮名」が当初は万葉仮名を指す語であったが、万葉仮名と平仮名との歴史的な連続性が原因となって、平仮名の成立とともに平仮名を指すようになったことを論じた。（五）口頭発表「女手成立過渡期の仮名の書道史上の位置付け」では、十世紀以降の草仮名と比較しながら、平仮名（女手）成立以前の九世紀後半期の過渡期の仮名に見られる過渡的性格を指摘しつつ、従来の書道史研究における過渡期の仮名の位置付けについての問題点を論じた。（六）博士論文「平仮名成立史の研究」では、これまでの成果に基づき、原理的な考察に基づく平仮名の成立過程の通史的研究をまとめた。
