项目摘要

本研究の目的は、日本語における借用語の音韻が形成されるプロセスの中で、借用元の言語の音韻・音声・日本語母語話者による知覚といった要素がどう関わり合っているかを明らかにするというものであった。本年度は、フランス語由来の借用語に頻繁に見られる、語末音節母音の延長と、フランス語の語末音節母音の音声的長さに強い相関があることを統計的に示した。フランス語には母音の長さの音韻的対立はないが、有声摩擦音に先行する母音と、円唇後舌母音[o]と円唇前舌母音(round mid-high vowel)は音声的に長いと伝統的に言われている。また、無声閉鎖音の前の母音と比較して、有声摩擦音、有声閉鎖音、渡り音、鼻音の前の母音はこの順番で長くなることも先行研究で示されている。加えて、フランス語由来の借用語で語末のnが「ン」ではなく「ヌ」と借用される原因が音声知覚であることを示した先行研究があり、フランス語由来の借用に音声知覚が関与していることは判明している。私は、外来語辞典に掲載されているフランス語由来の借用語のうち、閉音節で終わる単語に基づく語の最終音節の母音が長音化されるか否かと、その母音及び語末子音の種類の相関の強さを統計分析した。その結果、有声摩擦音、有声閉鎖音、鼻音、鼻音[o]、渡り音が、この順番で有意な相関を示した。すなわち、音声的により長いとされる母音ほど、借用語で母音が長く伸ばされていることが示された。これは、フランス語由来の借用語の語末音節母音の長さが、語末nと同様日本語母語話者による音声の知覚に基づいている可能性を示唆する。本研究は、借用語の音韻を音韻理論のみで説明しようとする研究への反論となりうる。
