项目摘要

本年度の主な成果として次のものがある。①Edith WhartonのSummer (1917)について、アメリカンガール像という観点から考察を行った。本作品では、女性のセクシュアリティというテーマを扱っている点で、1910年代に流布したアメリカンガール像に共通するヒロイン像を提示しているが、一方で本小説は19世紀の感傷小説（誘惑小説）にも共通する枠組みを持っている。そこで本研究では、本小説を同時代の作品や女性像と比較しながら考察すると共に、特に19世紀の女性作家による感傷小説とのつながりについて検討を行った。研究成果として、論文を執筆中である。②Nathaniel HawthorneのThe Marble FaunにおけるHildaの役割について考察した。本研究は報告者の以前からの研究を継続させたものである。The Marble Faunに登場するHildaは、従来保守的な女性像として読まれてきたが、本研究では、Hildaを「海外を旅するアメリカンガール」と読むことで、Hilda像の再考を行った。具体的には、Hildaが「ヨーロッパ」と出会う中で家父長制の罪に気づく過程をたどり、彼女が作品内で示す「女性のための女性」への希求が、いかにフェミニズム的議論につながっているかを論じた。研究成果は、論文（“The American Girl Abroad: Nation and Gender in The Marble Faun”）にまとめた（2023年発行の『武蔵大学人文学会雑誌』に掲載予定である）。

The main achievements of this year are as follows: 1 Edith Wharton's Summer (1917) This work is a reminder of the common image of women in the 1910s and a common group of sentimental novels in the 19th century. This study focuses on the comparison of female images with contemporary works, especially the sentimental novels of 19th century female writers. Research results, paper writing. 2 Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Marble Faun. This study was conducted in response to previous studies by the authors. The Marble Faun appeared in Hilda's conservative female image. In this study, Hilda's image was re-examined. The specific words "Hilda" and "Hilda" in the middle of the meeting are the sins of my father's long system. The process of "Hilda" and "Hilda" in the works show that "women and women" are expected to be discussed. The research results were published in a paper entitled "The American Girl Abroad: Nation and Gender in The Marble Faun"(published in the Journal of the Humanities Society of Takezo University in 2023).
