项目摘要

本研究の目的は、１）生物学史的観点からみた標準和名の概念成立過程の解明、２）教育学史的観点からみた標準和名の普及実態の解明、３）標準和名の命名指針制定機運の醸成である。4年計画の3年目となる2022年度は、目的１と目的２を並行して進めると同時に、目的3についても取り組みを行った。目的１については飛鳥時代や奈良時代にまで遡り文献収集と生物名称に関する情報抽出を進めた。その結果、学問的にオーソライズされた名称の出発点は平安時代に作られた『本草和名』や『和名類聚抄』まで遡ることができた。それ以前の名称については人々の生活の中で自然発生的に生まれた言わば古来の地方名であると理解する必要があることが明確になった。また、名物学や本草学上の和名は正名としての意味を持ち、標準和名の原型として機能したが、多数の生物種をカバーするにはまったく不十分であった。この状況を補完したのは江戸末期に作られた博物学的な著作物であり、多くの「新たな和名」が創造されたことが明らかとなってきた。ただし、これらの著作物の大半は未完の稿本であり、その名称が評価されたのは明治中期になってからのことであった。目的２については明治初期に編纂された植物学や動物学の教科書が新しい和名創出の場となったが、それらは主に上位分類群の名称に集約されていた。蘭学・洋学の導入により西洋の分類学の理解が進み、分類階級の概念が浸透したことと関連し、学名の翻訳値として新たな和名が創造されたことが判明した。目的３についてはこれまでの研究の成果を講演の場で様々な分野の研究者を相手に開示した。また、標準和名問題を分野横断的に議論するためのワーキンググループの設置にも取り組んだ。このワーキンググループの設置については2023年度に実現する見込みである。
