本研究では、台湾の原住民族特に漢化の進んだ平埔族の過去の社会を社会人類学的観点から再構成するため、過去と現在の記録を蓄積し、分析することで、これまであまり研究対象とされてこなかった平埔族社会の親族や社会構造などについて取り上げている。2023年１月から2月にかけて台湾調査を行った。この際、特にクヴァラン族の名前について、これまでの研究の補足的調査を行った。このテーマでは、民族固有の命名慣行と親族関係の特徴との関連を考察対象としている。クヴァラン族の命名慣行についてはこれまでに若干の研究が行われており、連名制の有無についての考察では、すでに私自身の調査によって結論を得ているが、コロナ直前の調査時に調べられなかった事実について補充調査を行った。2022年中は夏季休暇に台湾調査を予定していたが、感染拡大で渡航ができず、代わりに文献研究を中心に行った。台湾で行った補充調査では、固有の命名慣行とその基本法則についての確認のためのデータ収集を進め、台湾の戸籍登録における姓名登録方法の変更という制度変容の影響下での原住民名の復活に関わる最新のクヴァランの名前の動向について知見を得た。さらにクヴァラン族の名前の歴史的変遷についての分析を行うにあたり、これらの知見に加え、オランダ資料・清代の文書資料・日本統治時代の戸籍資料・戦後の資料を利用して、データを集め、資料の分析を行っている。また、過去のフィールドノートからの儀礼の歌の抽出とその中の名前の分析を進めており、儀礼の場での神や祖先への名前の呼びかけの慣行について、連名がどの程度固有習俗の中に取り入れられているのか考察を行っており、2023年度に論文を執筆する予定である。また、鳥居龍藏の研究した台湾原住民社会についての研究を行うため、徳島県立鳥居龍蔵記念博物館を訪問し、シンポジウムに参加し、博物館の考古学・人類学の所属資料を参観した。
