本研究は力久がイギリスを担当し、岡山大学の河原祐馬教授がロシア（ソ連）を担当する共同研究である。当初の予定では最終年度となっていた2022年度も、世界的な新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大の影響により海外渡航に関する規制が行われていたことから、イギリス（力久）およびロシア・エストニア（河原）を訪問して海外研究調査を実施することを見送った。それにより2022年度中に本研究を完了させることが困難となったため、研究期間を2023年度まで1年間延長する申請を行い、承認された。国内で実施可能な既存の理論および事例研究の整理については、おおむね順調に進めることができた。力久は、英露のナショナリズム、もしくは、ナショナル・アイデンティティの比較研究において、両国の政治行政エリートがブレグジットやソ連解体などの危機的状況に直面した際、それぞれのネイションは世界の中で「特別な」役割を果たす使命を有しているというナラティブの存在が、対外政策に対して無視できない影響をもたらしていることを明らかにした研究に触発された。河原は、国会図書館等での数回にわたる調査をはじめ、国内外の課題研究に係る研究資料の収集に努める一方、分担事項に係る研究の大枠となる問題についての先行研究を踏まえた考察を進めるなど、一連の学術的な作業を行った。本年度の研究成果については、力久が、イギリスにおけるナショナリズムと国家の一体性の関係、およびEU離脱のもたらした影響について考察を進め、日本経済研究センター「欧州研究」報告書『ブレグジット後の英国とEU：新時代の課題と展望』所収の「不透明感強い英国の将来像：国内分裂リスクとグローバル・ブリテン戦略」として発表している。河原は、本年度の学術的な取組を纏める形で、大阪公立大学法学部の夏季集中講義において、「ネイションとナショナリズム」と銘うって研究成果の一部を発表している。
