2年目となる前年は、ノンパラメトリックPSM-DID等の計量分析により、M&AからR&D投資と特許申請・取得への因果関係を探求する次の取り組みの前段階として、もっともナイーブな処置群・対象群の内生性を考慮しない企業固定効果効果項付きDIDをおこなったところ、非国有企業では、R&D投資を最も盛んにおこなうグループがM&A後にもさらにR&D投資を活発化させ、かつ特許申請・取得を活発化させる傾向が見えてきた。国有企業ではM&AがR&D投資を活発化させない一方、国有企業はM&A後に特許申請・取得を盛んにおこなうことも分かってきた。この2年目の成果の上で、3年目は1年目に考察したM&Aに踏み出す企業の選別メカニズムをその後の計量分析にも取り込んだ、ノンパラメトリックPSM-DIDを用いた計量分析により、M&AからR&D投資と特許申請・取得への因果関係を探求した。その結果、非国有企業では、R&D投資を最も盛んにおこなうグループがM&A後にもさらにR&D投資を活発化させ、かつ特許申請・取得を活発化させるが、国有企業ではM&AがR&D投資を活発化させない一方、国有企業はM&A後に特許申請・取得のみを盛んにおこなうことが厳密な因果関係として確認された。非国有企業においてはM&Aが買収企業自身によるイノベーションへのインプットを盛んにおこなわせるように動機づけるしそれがM&Aをおこなう目的であるのに対し、国有企業ではM&Aは買収先企業に蓄積された技術を自社に導入しイノベーションアウトプットを迅速にする目的でおこなわれ実際にそれに成功していることが示唆された。
