越境M&Aの案件データを元に、第一に国レベルに集計化したデータで重力モデルの推計を実施し、特にM&Aアドバイザーの集積が取引額に与える影響について検証を試みた。M&AアドバイザーはM&A候補の探索・選定、デューデリジェンス、対象企業の事業価値の算出など、多くの重要な役割を担っており、これらの活動は、買収企業と対象企業の間の情報の非対称性を減らすことを目的とした情報生産と見なされる。重力モデルの結果は、M&Aアドバイザーの集積がM&A取引額に正の影響を持ち、とりわけ買収側の国においてその影響が顕著であった。案件数と案件当たりの平均額に与える影響とでは特に案件数に与える影響が大きいことも明らかとなった。さらに、M&Aアドバイザーの利用と、金融機関および金融市場の発展の程度との間には代替性があり、金融環境が脆弱の国ではアドバイザーがその役割を代替していることが示唆された。第二に、案件レベルのデータを用いた研究では、対日直接投資が諸外国に比べて少ない現状を鑑み、M&Aの促進に寄与したと思われる2007年5月1日に施行された会社法の「合併等対価の柔軟化」の影響を検証した。影響を識別するため差の差の推計手法を用いて分析した結果、この制度変更によって日本企業を対象とするM&Aが増えたという証拠は認められなかった。また、アドバイザー有無とM&Aの金額との間にここでも相関関係が見られた。買収側・被買収側ともにアドバイザーが関わっていない案件に比べ、アドバイザーがいずれかまたは双方についている案件は買収金額に顕著な差がある。特に双方にアドバイザーがついている案件は、片方にアドバイザーがいる案件よりも買収金額高い。また、片方にのみアドバイザーがいる案件では買収側についている案件の方が被買収側についている案件よりも高い。アドバイザーの存在が大型案件の受け入れには必須の条件になることを示唆している。
