2020年度の研究成果として、”Hyperbolic Discounting and State-Dependent Commitment”の分析及び執筆を行なった。準双曲型割引で意思決定をおこなう個人は、現在と将来で意思決定に時間非整合性の問題が生じる。Laibson(1997)など従来の研究では所得が安定的に成長するという仮定のもとでは、現在の意思決定をコミットすることが現在の自分にとって最も望ましい選択であることが示されている。本研究では、将来所得に保険不能なリスクを伴う、３期間世代重複モデルを構築し、非流動資産及び将来所得によって内生的に決定される借入制約をyoung世代とmiddle世代に課した動学モデルを構築し分析した。得られた結論は次のとおりである。将来所得の安定的な成長が見込めるならば、Laibson(1997)で示された通りにフルコミットメントが望ましいがこれは安定成長期を捉えることに過ぎない。所得プロセスや所得リスクをより一般的な分析を行う必要がある。安定成長期においては将来所得を担保とした借入需要があるため、コミットメントを行う動機を持つが、完全なコミットメントは均衡として支持されない条件も明らかにした。例えば将来所得にリスクを伴うもとでは、bad stateに対しては将来自身を制御するためにコミットメント手段を用いるが、good stateに対しては将来の裁量に委ねることが非完備市場における最適化行動になる。つまり、コミットメントは状態依存でなされるものであり、特に将来のリスクが拡大しているときには、状態依存型のコミットメントが戦略上望ましいことを示した。また、リスクを伴う不況下ではmiddleの借入需要が弱まるため、コミットメントがそもそも選択されず将来の自身に裁量を与えることを明らかにした。
