本研究は近代日本の都市部・農村部での産業（工業）化や都市化という社会変動が労働生産組織の「単位集団」である世帯において、その成員最下層にある乳幼児及び学童の健康にどのような影響をもたらしたのかを、警察や自治体が編成した統計資料や明治の学校令以降各尋常小学校および尋常高等小学校で作成された学籍簿を使い、乳幼児の疫学的状況（乳幼児死亡や疾病など）や学童の身体状況（身長や体重など）の変化を通じて、明らかにすることを目的としている。本研究は社会の「単位集団」として認知されてきた世帯が都市化や産業化を受け止める堡塁・砦として機能したと考えたうえで、上記の分析を通じて、近代日本の都市部・農村部に居住する世帯に成育した乳幼児・学童の身体生理学的変化と社会のマクロ経済的な変動の関係を明らかにできると確信している。つまり、マクロ経済の効果を「単位集団」である世帯が受けとめ、その成果を世帯構成員に再配分するのである。2022年度の研究成果をまとめると、これまでと同じく「世帯としての生活水準」（世帯の底力）の概念把握とその計量化を大きな研究課題としているが、とくに近代になって東京・大阪・京都・名古屋などの大都市に忽然と姿をあらわし始めた「細民」（明治末期から大正初期に行政用語として使われはじめ、一貫したものではないが、意味としては貧困でありながら住居に定住している人びと）の生活水準の計測を目的として、1930年代初頭の東京市内の某細民地区の細民統計世帯個票データ（約180世帯の訪問調査結果）を使って、所得水準と生活費（栄養摂取カロリーで換算）の両面から、その貧困度を観察・分析した結果を和文の研究報告と英文のディスカッションペーパとして公刊した。また、長野県下伊那郡下の学籍簿を使った身長体格分析では、個人データを使った統計分析を施し、専門学術誌に投稿・受理（2022年12月刊行予定）された。

This study covers the industrial and urban development of modern Japan, the social development of modern Japan, and the production of "unit clusters" of organizations. The lowest levels of membership include the impact of maternal and child health on the health of children, the police, and local governments. Statistical data are compiled. The study was published in English.
