项目摘要

第３年度（令和４年度）は、令和３年度実施状況報告書の「今後の研究の推進方策」で書いた、コロナ禍が続いた際の変更計画にしたがい、当初採択された研究計画調書及び交付申請書に記した第４年度（令和５年度）の研究計画を前倒しして実施した。すなわち、紅花生産農家の文書から流通・消費と結びついた生産現場の動向を考察した。コロナ禍をふまえ、研究代表者が在住する山形県内の中山町柏倉九左衛門家と東根市武田半十郎家の古文書調査を実施し、紅花の品質口上のための輪作や「雨花」という伝統知の活用、各農家の経営や賃摘など労働編成、村ぐるみの紅花生産出荷組合の実態につき分析を深めた。とくに、花摘みの前に雨が降ると花弁に赤い色素が多くなるとする伝統知が存在したことを江戸時代の古文書から確認し、当時の紅花生産農家は紅餅の銘柄に雨の字を入れて品質をアピールしたことをあきらかにできたことは大きな成果となった。そうした伝統知は京都紅花問屋や山形城下町の紅花商人から村山地方の農村へ伝達され生産者へ普及したことも解明した。さらに、紅花関係を含む柏倉九左衛門家文書の整理保存事業と撮影を進めた。そうした研究の成果の一部を講演や展示で発表した。雨花という伝統知に関する講演には紅花生産者の方々や山形県農林水産部の職員らも参加してくださり、有益な意見交換ができた。また、山形県及び農林水産省が取り組む「最上紅花」の世界農業遺産申請に協力し、その歴史的根拠を提供した。さらに、江戸時代に最多量級の紅花生産をした柏倉九左衛門家（国指定重要文化財旧柏倉家住宅）を活用した地域活性化事業に関する論考を発表した。
