本研究は、排外主義の顕著な事例である2019年3月15日モスク銃乱射テロ事件が発生したニュージーランドにおいて、その後反排外主義の取り組みや運動がいかなる背景や条件のもとに展開・持続しているかを考察することを目的としている。2022年度は新型コロナウイルス流行による入国制限が緩和・撤廃されたため、2度に及ぶ調査の実施が可能となった。2022年８月には、モスク銃乱射テロ事件が発生したクライストチャーチにおいて、白人至上主義者として知られる男が公立学校の理事会選挙に立候補したことが大々的に報道されたことを受け、民主的選挙を通じた排外主義による学校教育支配というリスクに対していかなる対応策が可能か、排外主義は実際に学校現場にいかなる影響を及ぼし、排外主義に抗う動きはいかなるものが見られるか考察することを目的に翌９月に現地調査を実施した。現地では、学校関係者、教育省、報道関係者、理事会選挙運営システム会社等、またテロ事件による被害者遺族に聞き取り調査への協力を得ることができた。また調査をもとに、クライストチャーチにおいてテロ事件後に反排外主義の機運が高まった背景についても考察を行った。また2023年2月には、移民の生徒が多く在籍し、超多様多文化（superdiverse multicultural）とされるオークランドの高校において生徒主導の多文化啓発キャンペーンが展開されたことを受け、高校生たちは排外主義をどのように捉え、どのような脅威を感じつつ、どう対峙しようとしているのか、反排外主義をどのように推進できると考えているのか明らかにすべく、現地調査を実施した。同高校では教師及び在籍する生徒28名にインタビュー調査への協力を得ることができた。またイスラム教徒の生徒たちが抱きうる葛藤をいかに乗り越え、学校コミュニティの構築に貢献しようとしているかについても、論文発表に向け考察を行った。
