本研究では、ステレオタイプ・偏見低減につながる社会政策の中で、システムの可視化が当該の政策をどのように有効にしていくのか、「拡張接触」の促進に焦点を当てて検証することを目的とした。2022年度は前年度に行った刑務所近隣住民調査のデータの詳細な分析を行った。刑務所の運営や地域・社会貢献がどのような形で市民に可視化されたのか、どのようにして刑務所や受刑者に対する態度が変容したのかを検討する中で、特に、刑務所と地域の連携という枠組みの中での地域代表者(施設で働く民間職員やボランティア)の影響について注目した。その結果、まず両地域とも住民の中で施設に対する情報共有が進行し、地域変化に関する可視化が進行していたことが明らかになった。また住民は様々な形で施設に接触し、この各種の接触は刑務所制度への信頼を高め、出所者への受容的態度に結びついていた。さらに身近に地域代表者がいる場合には、住民は刑務所開設による地域変化や施設の地域貢献度を強く感じていた。この点に基づいて拡張接触の影響と効果に関するプロセスがモデル化され、拡張接触については従前の研究が扱ってきた成員間の個人的な親しい関係だけでなく、成員間の協働という状況の構築によっても促進される可能性が示唆された。一方、本研究が取り上げた事例においては、地域代表者(民間職員やボランティア経験者)が地域の中で限定・固定化されおり時間が経過しても地域全体に広がりにくいこと、さらに彼らが他の地域住民に知識を提供するような行動は積極的に行われていないことが示された。本研究によって社会的包摂を試みた社会政策の有効性が検討され課題が示されたとともに、学術的にはステレオタイプや偏見の低減に関する拡張接触の効果について新たな知見が提示された。
