新型肺炎コロナウィルス流行に伴い、2019年度春(2020年3月)以降に予定していた台湾・韓国での現地調査および米国での文献調査がキャンセルとなり、2020-21年度も状況は改善せず、柱となる調査研究が進まなかった。その中で、文献調査及び国内炭田調査を軸に、代表者・分担者は産炭地・石炭産業に関する研究成果を積み重ね、論文・著書・学会報告等によりアウトプットしている(研究業績欄参照)。具体的には(1)樺太産炭地に関して、コロナ前までの研究成果を取りまとめリサーチペーパーに仕上げる(2)夕張炭田において元炭鉱夫の日記を翻刻し、解説つきで刊行する、以上2点については2022年度中に刊行すべく2021年度中に準備作業を行った。(3)『家族社会学研究』誌における「特集 産業・地域から家族と労働をとらえなおす」の刊行と分担者2名による論文掲載(4)北海道東北地域経済研究所が発行する雑誌『NETT』における研究代表者の連載「炭鉱・鉱山と地域」の継続、以上2点については過去2年度の研究蓄積をひろく学会・一般社会に還元したものである。その他、分担者は関連する研究会や講演会での報告なども行っている。なお2022年度末より海外渡航が可能な状況になったため、2022年度末には延期していた韓国現地調査を実施することができ、2023年度には台湾現地調査と米国文献調査が実施できる見込みである。これら現地調査を通じてコロナ禍による研究計画の遅れを取り戻して行きたい。
