本研究課題は、推論過程を明示する言語表現について、特に、九州方言に注目して、その変異のダイナミクスを明らかにすることを目的としている。そのため、現地に出向いて、自然談話を収集したり、インタビューをしたりして、データを収集する必要がある。2022年度についても、基本的には、コロナ禍の状況であることに変わりはなく、現地に出向いての調査は大幅に制限されたままであった。とはいえ、メンバー間で定期的にリモートで打ち合わせを行い、相互の研究の進捗状況を共有し、また、研究課題に関連する内容についてゲストスピーカーを招いて公開で研究会も行なった。メンバーのうち３名が、その研究成果の中間報告として、九州方言研究会で口頭発表を行った。また、年度末に、メンバーのうち4名が上五島町で合同調査を行なった。詳細は研究業績欄に掲載するが、行なった主な研究活動は次の通りである。１）長崎県諸方言の「あそこでが釣れる」のように格助詞に後続する助詞「が」について県内で調査を行なった。２） 甑島里方言の疑問文に現れる条件形式について現地での調査を実施した。３）『日本方言大辞典』から撥音で始まる語，促音に共鳴音や有声阻害音が続く語を用例や地点と共に抽出し，表計算ソフトを用いたデータベースにした。このデータベースを使用して音韻的に標準語と大きく異なる構造をもつ形式がどの方言に現れやすいのかを定量的に表現できるようになる。４）佐世保市宇久町平方言の『動詞否定形+カナ』による行為指示について論文化するとともに、臨地調査も行なった。５）引用文と間接疑問文の関係および主文の述語との関係について研究を進め、研究発表を行なった。６）条件形式として用いられるギーの成立背景を探るため、中央語においてキリ・ギリがなぜ「期間」を表していたものから「特定時」を指すようになったのか、タ形を含む節を取れるようになったのかについて調査を行った。
