项目摘要

2022年度には、以下のような側面について、当該テキストを検討し、その方向性の理解を深めた。本研究課題の小説の語りをめぐって、事実を描写することを主眼とした旅行記や報告書における記述との関係性を問いながら、小説が描こうとしたフィクションとリアリティーの関係性を明らかにする方向性にある。こうした視点は、19世紀のアイルランド小説の特性（アイルランド小説のリアリズム表現をめぐる問題系）を探ることにつながることにもなる。1．2021年度実施の研究からの継続として、飢饉に関わる医療関連報告書（1810年代末から20年代初頭、1840年代後半から1850年代初頭）において、いかなる記述が示されているかについて、検討した。2．G. F. ボイル、H. マーティノー、T. カーライルの大飢饉関連の現場を語る描写を中心に検討した。3．大飢饉を語る旅行記等の記述が公表される時期に刊行された出版物について把握した。この時期、大飢饉からの回復を印象づける刊行物も出版されており、飢饉そのものを語る描写だけでなく、飢饉後の社会をにらんだ別種の情報発信も増えている。ここからは、飢饉を語る複数の語りが同時に提供されていたことが感得される。ポスト大飢饉の旅行ガイドについても確認した。以上、対象となり得るテキストの幅が広いため、研究取りまとめを意識しつつ、論考として先鋭化できるものを取捨選択するといった作業に時間をかけながら、抽出できる事象をとりまとめた。
