项目摘要

破格構文は教育上正しいとされる文法表現とは異なる表現のことを意味する。破格構文の創発の背景には、特定の表現形式が繰り返し使用されることが確認でき、後に定型化されることで、類似表現が派生的に生起する場合も少なくない。申請者は、発話末使用のis all構文、節頭あるいは節末使用のwh分裂表現、注意喚起機能を有するthe question is構文などを研究してきた。2022年度は、研究の着眼点と目測に誤りがないことを確認する目的で、改めて初期近代英語から現代英語にかけての関連表現の概観を把握することから研究に取り組んだ。その後、新たにwhat matters is (that)表現に注目し、17世紀以降の定型的および構文的発達を考察して国際学会にて口頭発表を行い、研究成果と方向性が妥当であることを再確認できた。同時に、近代以降に発達する破格構文や定型表現には、中英語から広く使用されていた表現が17-18世紀を境に比較的急速に衰退していることと関係している点に気付いた。そこで、中世から初期近代英語に確認可能なit/there is no nayおよびiwisの発達と衰退について考察した。前者は、ベルゲン大学准教授のJerzy N. Nykiel氏の協力を得て本格的な研究へと至り、国際学会での発表を経て現在論文を執筆中である。後者は単著論文として草稿を仕上げ、2023年7月に国際学会での発表許可を得ている。談話構造に関係する破格構文の歴史的発達には、類推や再分析をともなうメカニズムや言語接触などの点でも、英語以外の言語とも深く関係していることも知りえた。日本語の副詞「より」は、英語およびオランダ語との言語接触を経て後置詞「より」から創発した点、および、日本語における漢語由来の談話標識の発達についても研究を進め、ともに国際ワークショップでの招待講演者として報告した。
