本研究は大学生を対象に漫画の言語分析を通じて協働型のPBLを実施し大学の英語教育に斬新で効果的なアプローチを確立することを目指す。最終目標は外国人に地域情報を伝える日英漫画ガイドブックを作成することである。本研究を通じて文語体・口語体の区別と正確さ、文法項目の正確さ、文章の多様性、表現の多様性の変化を測定する。併せて学習動機、 共同作業、法令遵守等に対する質問調査を実施する。4年目の2022年度（期間延長）は総まとめとして役割語分析を導入した漫画作成のアカデミックライティングにおける効果の検証を行い、外国人向けに漫画作品をウェブ配信する予定であった。しかし作業が予定より遅れ、2023年度に再延期された。22年度は医療系大学の学生50名を被験者とし、地元の飲食店紹介漫画と医療情報漫画の2点を作成した。また、オンライン役割語表現集を作成し、英語の会話表現を被験者同士で共有して漫画作成に役立てた。受講後調査によると、グループで協力することで英語表現の学びを深めたという反応が多かった。また、漫画を取り入れたことに肯定的であった。会話とナレーションの英語表現も口語、文語と使い分けができており、アカデミックライティング教授法にも一定の効果が見られた。一方参考文献を用いた医療情報漫画は、テキストの殆どが文献の引用となる例が多く見られた。1ページの短編漫画に先行研究と自らの研究の両方を含めることは不可能であるため、文献を用いた漫画については2023年度に改善が必要である。また、漫画のセリフをナレーションに書き換えることで間接話法と直接話法の学習を促進すると予想していたが、混乱が見られた。現在、漫画公開の準備として作品中で紹介された店舗への配布を行い、内容を校正中である。ウェブ公開に関しては、オンライン上の著作権の取り扱いに注意が必要という指摘があり、公開方法を見直し中である。
