英文摘要
Fractured aquifers constitute a large part of the world’s drinking water resources but are often vulnerable to pollution by contaminants such as nitrate or pesticides. In this project we will identify the composition, size and source of particles from the fractured aquifer and determine their effects on pollutant transport and microbial community composition. We will evaluate the relevance of S and C elemental cycles (i.e. oxidation of HS- or CH4) and abiotic processes (e.g. chemodenitrification) for denitrification. Finally, we will determine the location, the identity, and the metabolisms of endolithic and fracture-associated microorganisms in the aquifer using molecular biological methods (including Omics) applied to samples from drilling campaigns.
