项目摘要

本研究の課題は、近代国家移行期（本研究では主に1880-1930年代を対象期間とする）のタイ（シャム）国の社会構造（とりわけ、社会階層秩序、パトロン・クライアント関係、多民族社会的性格）の実態・実相を、従来利用されたことがない独自のソースであり、かつ他にはない詳細な情報から成る、在タイ日本人の個人文書を用いて、より具体的かつ詳細に解明することである。これによって法制面に偏った既存研究を超え、タイ社会構造の生きた実態を明らかにすることである。本研究では、在タイ日本人の中でも、一定規模の人数を有し、かつ知識層として記録や報告が少なからず残っている仏教者に主な焦点を当てている。2022年度は、前年に比しコロナ禍が軽減され、調査地であるタイ国への調査渡航が3年ぶりに可能になったので、本科研費による初めてのタイ調査を実施した。即ち、2022年秋の二ヵ月間の在タイ調査により、タイ国立公文書館、タイ国立図書館及び大学図書館等に保存されている、訪タイ日本人僧侶関係の記録等を収集した。国内においては、図書資料等の収集とともに、訪タイ日本人僧侶の関係者に電話其他の方法で問い合わせを行い、新資料の発掘に努めた。収集した資料等を用いて以下のような研究成果を公刊した。村嶋英治「クルーバー・シーウィチャイの第2回バンコク軟禁（1935年11月－36年5月）の背景、過程及び結末：中央サンガ・エリートによるシーウィチャイ派弾圧処分の徹底」『アジア太平洋討究』45号、2022年１2月村嶋英治「タイにおける組織的日本文化広報の先駆者: 日泰文化研究所主事平等通昭（通照）の「興亜興仏」的文化交流事業（1940－43年）」『アジア太平洋討究』46号、2023年3月村嶋英治「シャム（タイ国）における「からゆきさん」の歴史：1885年―1920年」『アジア太平洋討究』46号、2023年3月
