项目摘要

本研究は、啓蒙時代に誕生した哲学的学科としての美学が、ヨーロッパにおける占術の変遷と密接な関係を持っていたことを明らかにするものである。2022年度は本研究の思想史上の位置付けを明確にするため、古代から近代までのヨーロッパ・キリスト教において占術（魔術を含む）がどのように位置づけられてきたのか考察した。具体的には、以下のような流れをまとめた。占術は古代と中世では異教のもとして公式には糾弾されたが、ルネサンス時代には新プラトン主義を淵源とする「万物照応」の世界観のもとで隆盛した。だが科学革命における宇宙論の転換によってこの世界観は効力を失い、学問の近代化と専門分化が進展した十八世紀に、占いや魔術は学術の外へ追いやられて周縁的な知識ないし技芸となる。さらに、神託を詐術だと主張するファン・ダールに端を発する神託論争について、ドイツの状況を中心に検討し、18世紀前半の哲学では占術や魔術が脱神秘化される潮流にあったことを示した。以上を踏まえて、美学を提唱したバウムガルテンと、その師にあたるヴォルフの立場について検討を加えた。両者の共通点は、ヴォルフの「予測する技術」と、バウムガルテンの美学としての占術という発想を可能にしたのが「記号」の概念であることにある。しかしヴォルフにおいて占術は「予測する技術」から排除され、バウムガルテンにおいても美学が学問である限り、美学のなかに参入されうる占術は神秘的ないし魔術的なものではなく、論理が解き明かされた「技法」である。この点に、近代啓蒙における理性と迷信の緊張関係が見出されうるのではないかという見解を示した。以上の成果は、2023年春に刊行予定の雑誌に寄稿した。
