项目摘要

本研究は、バウムガルテンによる美学の創始を修辞学・論理学の伝統と連続的に捉えることで、バウムガルテン美学の歴史的意義を問い直すことを目指すものである。平成28年度は、argumenta（論証法；論拠）の概念を軸に研究を進めた。テクストの基本的な読解は前年度に済ませていたため、本年度は、前年度の口頭発表をとおして浮上した課題を解決することに注力した。その成果として、バウムガルテンにおけるargumentaの概念は従来思われていたような修辞的論法の概念に留まるものではなく、図像さえ含みうる概念であることを解明した。そこから、この概念には、修辞学の改鋳をとおして一般芸術論を構築するというバウムガルテン美学の独自性が顕現している、という結論に至った。これらの成果は雑誌論文で公表した。具体的な内容は以下のとおり。たしかにバウムガルテンがargumentaを根拠の概念で定義する点には、論理学・修辞学との連続性がみうけられる。しかし『美学』および『美学講義録』では、論理的・修辞的論法を越え出るようなargumenta概念が展開される。バウムガルテンは根拠を力の帰属先と規定するため、argumentaは〈論理的ないし美的な力を及ぼすもの〉と捉えられるのである。美的な力を持つargumentaは必ずしも一連の命題である必要はなく、彫刻でさえargumentaと呼ばれうることが講義録では示唆される。argumenta概念のこうした改変は、多義的なこの語がもつ語義を総合したものと言え、その総合にはゲスナーの辞典からの影響が推測される。さらに、『形而上学』第4版に「広義のargumenta」という術語が唐突に追加されたことは、美学におけるargumenta概念のこうした展開が要因となったと考えられる。バウムガルテンの主著『形而上学』の経験的心理学は、修辞学の観点からも読解される必要がある。
