项目摘要

本年度の研究実施状況報告は大きく分けて二つの事柄についてである。まず、英語においてactive expletive Voice projectionを仮定するのは妥当ではない、と主張する論文を発表した。同機能範疇はドイツ語の中間構文等の統語構造に仮定されているものである。本課題の研究対象である英語の中間構文や中間構文の一種と言われる場合があるvirtual reflexives (VRs)に、ドイツ語の中間構文と同様にexpletive Voiceを仮定するのが仮に妥当だとすると、英語の中間構文においては「見えない」虚辞の再帰代名詞が存在することになり、かつVRsの再帰代名詞は虚辞であることになる。ならびに、これらの再帰代名詞は、外項位置に生起していることになる。というのも、ドイツ語の中間構文に生起する再帰代名詞は虚辞であり外項位置に生起すると仮定されているものだからである。先に述べたように、論文の結論は「妥当ではない」である。つまるところ、ドイツ語と英語の中間構文とVRsは、同列に扱うことはできないということである。加えて、英語の再帰代名詞にはドイツ語の再帰代名詞のような外項位置に生起する用法は存在しない、ということも当該論文は主張している。もう一つは、reflexive sentences of appearance (RSoA)の研究の進捗についてである。RSoAについての論文は現在執筆中である。令和二年度の研究実施状況報告書にRSoAが「意味的に（も）他動詞であるという判断をする英語母語話者と、意味的には自動詞であるという判断をする英語母語話者」が存在すると書いた。この判断の揺れを申請者は、母語話者がRSoAに生起する再帰代名詞を弱形再帰代名詞の強調用法と見做すか虚辞用法（虚辞用法は弱形再帰代名詞の用法の一つ）と見做すかの違いであると考えている。どちらの用法であれ、それは弱形再帰代名詞の用法であるという点が共通している。
