このプロジェクトの目的は、長寿化と人口減少が続くなか、わが国の社会、経済構造がいかなる方向に変化するかについて、ビジョンを提供できるような経済理論モデルを探ることにある。世界に先駆けて年少人口比率の減少、老年人口の増加が急速に進むわが国の実態にもとづいて、人口とマクロ経済の相互関係を理論的に考察し、望ましい政策のあり方を学術的な観点から提言する。プロジェクトの 5年目となる2022年度での活動内容は以下の通りである。まず以前から行っていた「寿命の伸長とともに、現役期間（教育、労働に携わる期間）が長くなる場合、教育や働き方がどのように変化するか」に関する研究成果が、2022年5月に、海外の著名な査読付き学術雑誌Canadian Journal of Economicsから公刊された。そしてその枠組みを利用して、長寿社会のもとでの望ましい教育政策や、所得不平等などの格差問題について考察した。また、上記の論文で構築した理論モデルでは、経済成長率を外生的であると仮定したが、その点を理論的に拡張することも検討した。これらの分析については、解析上の困難な問題に直面しているため、現時点では、まだまとまっておらず、分析を進めている途上である。ただし、リカレント教育（リスキリング）時に直面する所得や時間の制約が、人々の人的資本蓄積や、ひいては経済成長に対して大きな阻害要因になることを見出しつつある。また、近年には経済主体を同質的と仮定せず、異質性をもつことを明示的に扱うマクロモデルが発展してきている。人口問題を考えるときにも、これは重要な要素であるため、それに関する知識の習得も行った。
