非英語圏の国々の大学において英語による専門科目の授業（EMI）が増加を続けている。一方で実践が研究による実証を先回り、効果的なEMIの実践方法に関しては不明瞭な点が多い。このような背景から当研究では、これまでの先行研究によって明らかになりつつあるEMI受講生のニーズに基づいたEMI学習支援システムの構築を行い、その導入がEMI受講者にどのような影響を与えるかについて測定することを目指した。原案では、2021年度においては支援システム導入の結果を測定し、結果発信を行う予定であった。しかしながら、2018年度末の申請者の出産、および2019年度以降の新型コロナウイルスの蔓延、そしてそれに伴う保育施設の閉鎖は授業のオンライン化への対応等により、予定通りに研究を進めることが困難であった。このような経緯から当研究は原案においては2021年度に完了する予定であったが、2022年に研究期間の延長、2023年度においても研究機関の再延長を申請し、それが承認された。2022年度においては、2021年度に実施した５種類の字幕生成ソフトウェアのトライアルの結果に基づきパイロットスタディを実施し、その結果を元に２つのオンライン授業において学習支援システムの第一回目の導入を行った。パイロットスタディでは２つのオンライン授業においてEMI学習支援システムを実際に導入し、リアルタイムでの字幕生成及び字幕ファイルの作成が可能であることを確認した。一方、生成される字幕データと実際の発話内容において正確性が低いという問題が発生したため、第一回目の導入においてはこの点を改善するよう努めた。第一回のEMI学習支援システムの導入は2021年後期に実施され、第15回の授業終了後、受講生を対象に質問紙調査が実施された。
