本研究は、アジア・太平洋地域における知的共同体構築の過程のなかで、歴史教育がどのような役割を果たすべきかを明らかにする一方、グローバル時代における人材育成戦略のなかで歴史教育の新たな方策をいかに構築すべきかを探ることを目的としている。令和３年度、おもにアジア諸国、とりわけ日中両国の戦争・平和・歴史博物館に関するデータの収集、先行研究の調査およびデーター資料の分析をを行い、研究活動を進めた。今まで調査・収集した資料やデーターを基に、韓国のJejuで開催された国際研究大会Jeju Forum（2021年6月23日－25日）において、「War Memory and History Reconciliation in a Global Context”という題目で研究成果の報告を行った。また、名古屋歴史科学研究会2021年大会で（2021年5月29日）において、「博物館のなかのアジア・太平洋戦争」という題目で研究報告を行った。そこで東アジア地域の戦争・平和博物館、特に日中両国の戦争・平和・歴史博物館のなかの日中戦争に関する戦争展示の変遷過程、および主な特徴、さらに戦後、日中両国の歴史教育における博物館の社会教育施設の役割について議論が交わされた。とりわけ日中両国の戦争・平和博物館に対して、歴史的要因や政治的要因などの社会的規定要因がどのように作用し、両国の歴史和解の実現を妨げているかを分析した。その上で、東アジア諸国、とりわけ日中両国の戦争の記憶、ひいては歴史認識の形成に果たしてきた博物館の社会機能を明らかにし、博物館の視点からグローバル化時代における歴史和解と歴史教育の課題を探ることにした。
